What is a Physiatrist?                                                             

A physiatrist is a medical doctor who focuses his care on the restoration of function.  His or her concern is for the maximal restoration and development of physical, psychosocial, cognitive and vocational functions in persons whose abilities have been limited by disease, trauma, congenital disorders or pain.

A Physiatrist's care and treatment is for patients with a history of acute and chronic pain, musculoskeletal pain such as neck and low back pain, patients who have experienced catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord injuries which have resulted in paraplegia or quadriplegia, amputation, joint replacement, work place injuries, motor vehicle accidents, as well as fibromyalgia.
